HALES OWENROOTS

19-20 Great Cornbow 1960 approx

The above photograph shows Nos 19 and 20 Great Cornbow in the early 1960's. No 19 was a three storey Georgian House and was built in the 1760's. The last person to live in this house was Miss Hollowell, the daughter of local solicitor Arthur Hollowell. No 20 was an ancient half-timbered structure and was probably built in 1693. They were both demolished in the 1960's to make way for Pool Lane and the Municipal Swimming Baths.

To fully appreciate where these houses were, I reproduce the following modern day photo submitted by Simon Clarke which shows Nos 24 and 25 Great Cornbow.
